Boy, have we got an action-packed fitness round up for you this week. Britons are pros when it comes to ‘excusercising’, although want to get fit now the summer has gone. Go figure! And there are some great events to get involved in that we’ve come across!

General fitness announcements

We recently did a post on ‘plogging’ – the latest international fitness phenomenon – and now Fitbit is encouraging you to do your bit! Plogging is the latest craze, whereby you collect rubbish while you’re out and about running or jogging.

All you have to do is take a photo of you plogging and upload it to their Facebook status. They’ll donate £10 to WasteAid for every plogging photos that are uploaded into the comments section of their post.

We recently got to chat to Eleni Plakitsi and she gave us some fantastic warm up and cool down tips. The founder of Esquared had since done some research with interesting results. Many Britons are well versed in the art of ‘excusercising’… making excuses as to why they CAN’T work out. Apparently, 8 in 10 make an excuse not to go to the gym three times a week, whilst as many as 1 in 10 will do so 75% of the time. The most popular excuse for not working out is that ‘it’s too much hassle’. Other common excuses are that it’s ‘too cold’, ‘my body needs another hour in bed more than the gym’ and ‘I’ll go tomorrow.

Another study, this time by Pinterest and on a much more positive note, has found that two fifths of Britons want to exercise more now that the summer has come to an end. September is known for being the time to get ‘Back To Life’, with holidays coming to an end, kids going back to school and the weather taking a turn. Alongside getting fit, Britons apparently want more ‘me’ time, make small changes to their lifestyle and generally be healthier.

Fitness events to attend

Keith McNiven, former British and national wrestling champion and founder of PT company, Right Path Fitness, is launching ‘Date-ercise‘. It’s basically speed dating for those who love to keep fit and don’t take themselves too seriously. The classes will be a circuit-style, with members moving around the zones. Apparently you burn up to 700 calories whilst meeting 12 potential love interests.

The first Date-ercise class is set to take place on the 10th October at Rich Mix (London). Tickets cost £25 per person and there will be healthy cocktails at the end for mingling.

Whilst the first Date-ercise is aimed at women meeting men, the team say that there are LGBT events to come!

For those of you wanting to try something new, or if yoga has always been a thing for you, Wanderlust 108 is coming around quick.  Wanderlust, in association with Adidas, is a a global yoga and wellness festival featuring the world’s only ‘mindful triathlon’. Unlike your usual triathlons, this one is made up of a 5k run (or walk), 90 minutes of yoga and a 30-minute guided meditation.

Alongside the mindful triathlon, there are many other things taking place for you to immerse yourself in. For example, there will be live music and DJs,  117 classes to attend, artisanal vendors and local foods on offer.

Wanderlust is taking place in Battersea Park, London, on September 15th between 7:30am and 5:00pm. Tickets range from £14.95 to £91.08. All Jogger readers can get 10% off their premium tickets by using code WLGBJOG. When you click the green button to select tickets, enter the promotional code on the top right.
