Happy Friday fitness folks! We’ve got a few snippets of news for you to get through today – so dive in and enjoy.
General fitness announcements
Ironman UK have announced the launch of ‘Iron Girl’ – a new event for their Bolton Ironman weekend. What’s noted as a “5k fun run open to women of all abilities” offended so many fit, healthy and strong women.
Some women were outraged that it was called ‘Iron Girl’ and not ‘Iron Woman’ (whilst the general event is Ironman and not Ironboy). Yet most people, men and women alike, were disappointed that this had been created when many women were smashing Ironman and many other events.
Ironman UK have since come out, held their hands up that they “missed the mark on this one” and have replaced the event with a 5k Night Run open to everyone.
Myprotein have done some research into our fitness habits and found that men spend an hour a week more, on average, working out than women. What’s more, the average number of times we attend the gym a week is five, meaning we’re getting good value for our money per workout!
They’ve also found the top pieces of equipment that we’re likely to us in the gym, with dumbells topping the list.
MINDBODY have teamed up with leading fitness professionals to create the ultimate motivational Spotify playlist. As many as 1 in 4 of us are lacking motivation, so could this be the trick we need? The playlist can be found online, but the list is below for you to have a gander at:
- Pinnacles – Four Tent
- Freaks – Timmy Trumpet
- Run boy Run – Woodkid
- Rapture – Nadia Ali
- Losing It – Fisher
- Differentology – Bunji Garlin
- Higher Ground – TNGHT
- Chameleon – Pnau
- Play – Jax Jones
- Old Friend – Elderbrook
Product launches you need to have if you’re into fitness!
You might not have heard of Mio Skincare yet, but they should be on your radar. For someone who works out a lot and regularly finds themselves sweaty, it’s important to have a good skincare range. They have a wide range of products from body creams, to bath & shower products and even products for kids. I’ve been using the ‘Your Fit Skin for Life Kit‘ and can only rave about the products (kit consists of Boob Tube+, the Activitst and Workout Wonder) – not all products are geared towards women though.
Fitness events to attend!
Now’s your last chance to nab a charity place for The Grand Brighton Half Marathon, taking place Sunday 24th Feb. Charity spaces are available until Sunday 3rd Feb (not long at all!) with over 30 charity partners to choose from. Whether you want to run for Alzheimer’s Society, Macmillan or smaller local charities, you’ve got to get the ball rolling now.
And as always, don’t forget to check out our Events Calendar to see what might be coming up in a town or city near you. We also have a few international events listed now too, if that floats your boat.
