Is caffeine OK to drink before working out?

Caffeine can provide a great boost to your workout. Research carried out by the Journal of Applied Physiology  found that those who drank coffee before a workout found it to be easier to complete than those who didn’t.

It’s recommended that you drink a caffeinated drink up to an hour before you workout. This is because it takes between 15 to 45 minutes to fully absorb into your stomach. It’s then most effective between 30 and 75 minutes after consumption.

The suggestion is to have 3 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram of your own body weight – so, for example, if you weigh 150lbs, you’re going to want between 210 and 400 mg of caffeine.

Don’t fancy a caffeinated energy drink?

Not everyone loves a cup of coffee or a caffeinated energy drink though. So what do you do if you need a burst of energy?

There are many other drinks that are good to turn to, for example:

  • Lemonade with ginger
