Happy Friday fitness fans. We’ve got another fantastic fitness roundup for you this week, covering interesting research, an update on the Red Bull Million Mile Challenge, some fantastic running clubs and a full brand discount.
General fitness announcements
Love Island is even more popular this year than ever before and it seems to be setting many trends. One of which is fitness, with many of the contestants often seen working out in the villa’s outdoor gym. According to research from SportsShoes.com, in the first week of Love Island airing there was a 52% increase in the number of online searches for gym sign-ups than during any other average week in the UK.
A few weeks ago we wrote ‘Get more active during July with the Red Bull Million Mile commute‘. At the very end of last week, we caught wind that the challenge had already hit the halfway mark. 500,000 miles had officially been logged. Not just that, but the first 2,500 prizes has been shipped. There’s still time to rack up your mileage and there are still plenty of prizes up for grabs, including the top prize: a MARIN FAIRFAX SC3 2018 bike provided by Cycle Surgery.
Decathlon, a multi-sports retailer, is hosting a number of free 5k runs around the UK for everyone to get involved in. This is part of a wider campaign, Decathlon Sports Series, where numerous free fitness events will be taking place. The company wants to make sport easy and enjoyable for everyone, with runners of all ages and abilities welcome.
Upcoming locations include Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Nottingham (but there are many more). For more information and to sign up, go to https://events.decathlon.co.uk
Likewise, we’ve just come across We Run Virtual Running Club, an online-based running club aimed at those with limited time who still want to keep fit. The virtual running club is priced at £8 a month or £70 a year and gives users access to training sessions, strength & conditioning challenges, Q&A webinars, exclusive discounts and much more. You can even sign up for a one week free trial to experience the the perks before signing up.
