Marvin Ambrosius, from Sky's Fit in 5, features in the My Lockdown Workout series

Marvin Ambrosius is a fitness expert and personal trainer, well known for his show Fit in 5 on Sky, which featured many celebrity guests. He’s also one of many who have created exclusive content for L1VE – a new online fitness and wellness platform. We’ve been lucky enough to interview him for our brand new series – My Lockdown Workout.

How did you get into fitness?

I looked in the mirror one day and saw a reflection I no longer recognised. I was 6 stone overweight and was very unhappy with myself. It was then decided to make a change but didn’t know how!

It took me while to find some consistency in my training and when I discovered HIIT training I was hooked. Fitness not only helped me transform my body, it helped me transform my mind. It gave me the tools to help others on there fitness journey.

What is one of your favourite lockdown workouts?

My favourite lockdown workout is “Fit in 5” which consists of 10 exercises, 30 seconds each exercise and it’s for all levels.

Here’s 3 of my favourite exercises that get your bloody pumping and your heart rate up:

  1. Jumping jacks – standing, feet together-arms by your side, and laterally lift both arms above your head whilst simultaneously moving your feet to opposite sides.
  2. Burpees – stand shoulder width apart and fall forward getting your hands ready for a plank position. Once your hands hit the floor your hips and shoulders should be aligned and you should be on your toes. You then jump your feet back to your starting position and repeat this for 30 seconds.
  3. Push up jacks – high plank position, shoulder width apart and simultaneously move you hands and feet, laterally dropping your hips and elbows down.

What’s your nutrition like when doing a lockdown workout?

I always eat 1 hour before exercise for some energy and I like working out in the morning; oats (porridge) or 2 slices of wholemeal toast is my go-to as it gives me 300-400 calories and is slow releasing.

I have a Bio-synergy Whey Hey protein shake to replenish my muscles for recovery.
