Why are ASICS considered to be the best running shoes on the market? What makes ASICS so good?

asics trainers are the best running trainers according to professionals

ASICS trainers are a bit like that unassuming bloke you’d see at a pub quiz. You know, the one sitting quietly in the corner, pint in hand, politely answering every obscure question thrown his way. You might underestimate him at first glance, but, oh boy, does he deliver when the chips are down. That’s ASICS for you – understated, reliable, and absolutely brilliant.

Ever wondered why ASICS has become the go-to choice for runners of all stripes, from Sunday joggers to Olympic champions? It’s not just because their name is an acronym from the Latin phrase “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”, which translates as “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body” – although that’s pretty cool, right? It’s because ASICS trainers tick all the boxes that matter when it comes to delivering an extraordinary running experience.

The history of ASICS running trainers as a brand

Once upon a time, in a land not too far away (well, Japan, to be exact), a man named Kihachiro Onitsuka decided to make basketball shoes. The year was 1949, and his new venture, Onitsuka Co. Ltd., was the size of a typical bedsit in London. With his sights set on redefining athletic footwear, Kihachiro was like a mad shoe scientist. He even cooked up his first pair of basketball shoes in his kitchen – talk about homegrown innovation!

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 25

Fast-forward to the 1950s, and Kihachiro was busy shaking things up with his ‘Tiger’ running shoes. Yes, ‘Tiger,’ a name as fierce and mighty as the shoes themselves. These were the trainers worn by marathon runner Abebe Bikila when he won the 1960 Rome Olympics – running barefoot. Bikila might have left the Tigers at home, but hey, at least they got a free trip to Rome!

In 1977, Onitsuka Co. Ltd., partnered with two other companies to become ASICS Corp. The name ASICS is an acronym derived from the Latin phrase ‘Anima Sana In Corpore Sano’ or ‘You should pray for a healthy mind in a healthy body.’ A mouthful to say in a game of Taboo, but a pretty epic guiding principle. After all, who wouldn’t want a sound mind in a sound body?

Over the years, ASICS has grown from a pint-sized operation to one of the world’s top athletic footwear manufacturers. They’ve continued to innovate and stay ahead of the curve. They’re a bit like the James Bond of running shoes, constantly outdoing themselves with a new gadget up their sleeve. And while they might not come with an ejector seat or laser watch, ASICS trainers sure can make you feel like a super spy on your runs!

It’s All About That Gel, ‘Bout That Gel

ASICS trainers are best known for their innovative GEL cushioning technology. “Just like a well-padded bra supports, well, you know what, the ASICS GEL cushioning system supports your feet while you pound the pavement,” as one avid marathoner puts it. The GEL cushioning absorbs shock, reducing the impact on your joints and allowing you to run comfortably for longer. It’s a bit like having your own personal shock absorbers, taking the brunt so you don’t have to!

Fit for a King (or Queen)

ASICS isn’t about cramming your foot into a one-size-fits-all box. They’re like the bespoke tailors of the running shoe world, offering a range of fits and styles for different foot shapes and gait types. Whether you’re an overpronator with flat feet or a neutral runner with high arches, ASICS has a trainer designed just for you. It’s like they measured our feet in our sleep – a little creepy, but mostly impressive.

The Tortoise and the Hare

ASICS running trainers may not win any beauty pageants (although we think they’re quite snazzy!), but when it comes to durability, they’re the undisputed champions. They’re the tortoise in a world of hares – steady, reliable, and always reaching the finish line, no matter how long the race. You might retire before your ASICS trainers do!

Room for Improvement? Not Really

Most people think perfection is unattainable, but those people probably haven’t tried ASICS. From the moment you slip them on, it’s clear they’re committed to your comfort and performance. The only downside? You might become so attached that you’ll start wearing them everywhere. Wedding? Funeral? Job interview? Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Whether you’re a novice lacing up your trainers for the first time or a seasoned pro chasing a personal best, ASICS has you covered. They’re not just running shoes; they’re reliable mates that stick with you, mile after mile, helping you to be the best runner you can be. And isn’t that what true friendship is all about?
