It’s been an exciting week for events and for fitness launches – so let’s dive right in.

General fitness announcements

Spartathlon kicks off today in Greece, which sees 390 athletes from around the world (25 from Britain) attempt the gruelling 153-mile race. Roughly 50% of those in the competition won’t complete, with rules very tight. The race has a cut-off point of 36 hours, and there are 75x checkpoints along the way. Fail to make a checkpoint by its cut-off time and the athlete’s place is withdrawn. Each athlete must run, on average, 4.5mph in order to complete the race, with temperatures ranging from 4C to 30C and a number of obstacles along the way, including Mount Parthenion which stands at 3,900ft.

Check out the below video… it’s a powerful one (it totally makes me want to enter, and that’s just daft!).

This past Wednesday was National Fitness Day and MINDBODY (a health and fitness booking app) created an interesting infographic around Briton’s fitness trends. This includes stats such as:

  • Britons live, on average, 2.82 miles away from their nearest exercise facility
  • 38% of Britons have an exercise ‘buddy’
  • Running is the UK’s favourite form of exercise
